I just bought the new laptop and now while using the laptop (the keyboard and screen are perpendicular at 90 degrees) if my laptop gets tilted the entire thing then it automatically goes into tablet mode where keyboard and touchpad are disabled and I like to lay sideways and use my laptop i havent experienced this issue before why is it happening now is this normal

I understand your concern, dont worry I’ll help you sort this out.

From what you describe, it sounds like your Omnibook Flip 5 is automatically switching into tablet mode when tilted, even though the screen is only at 90°. This is linked to the auto‑rotation and convertible mode sensors inside the device, which detect orientation and hinge position. Sometimes, sensitivity settings can cause the system to misinterpret your usage.

 

Just to confirm does the switch to tablet mode happen only when you lay sideways, or also when you tilt the laptop slightly while upright?

Kindly find the steps you can try right away:

Check rotation settings: Go to Settings > System > Display and toggle “Rotation lock” to see if it stabilizes usage.

Update drivers: Use HP Support Assistant to update BIOS, chipset, and sensor drivers.

Test hinge positions: Slowly move the screen back and forth to see if the mode switch is triggered at specific angles.
