Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

 The screen is cracked and the insurance company need the serial number; however, using HP Support Assistant and via command prompt, the serial number cannot be retrieved by opening the "desktop" display, as it cannot function. Is there a method whereby the laptop can be linked by double USB to another W10 HP laptop, such that the display on the faulty laptop can be viewed, thus the serial number displayed, on the screen of the second, "rescue", laptop?

@ROSALIND-ANNE Welcome to HP Community!

If the laptop is functional and only the screen is cracked, you should be able to connect the laptop to an external monitor or TV (as you cannot connect it to another laptop), that said, here are a few other places you can find the serial number of your device: click here for details.

Let me know how that pans out,
