is there an official hp software for this? i always try to avoid third party softwares

No HP is not in the business of writing monitoring software other than its own HP Support Assistant and that has no temperature monitoring feature....speedfan is one of the most trusted applications there is. You are missing a world of opportunity by shutting out "third party softwares" and I am a bit offended you think I would suggest something that would harm your computer. Good luck to you.

no. I trust you. You are labelled as an expert so its not that i think you would suggest something harmful but i just wanted to know if hp made one. I came across HP CoolSense once. What is it exactly about?

HP Recommended

It is a power management app. Tries to keep the temperature down by adjusting power settings. Does not tell you exactly what the temperatures are:

I followed your link and downloaded SpeedFan onto HP Elitebook 8770w laptop[Win7 Pro]. I accepted terms of agreement, installed. However, I cannot find this program anywhere other than my program list in Contral Panel. I have no icon and it does not show in All Programs.
