Hi @wmive48,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're looking to reset the login password on an HP 15-G070nr Notebook PC, you have a few options to consider. Here's a general guide to help you get started.

Use Microsoft Account Reset (Online): If you're using a Microsoft account to log in to your PC, you can use the online password reset feature. This method requires access to another device with internet access.

  • On another device, go to the Microsoft Account Password Reset page: https://account.live.com/password/reset
  • Follow the prompts to verify your identity and reset your password.
  • Once the password is reset, use the new password to log in to your HP notebook.

Use Password Reset Disk: If you've previously created a password reset disk, you can use it to reset your password.

  • Insert the password reset disk into your HP notebook.
  • On the login screen, click "Reset password" or similar option.
  • Follow the prompts to reset your password using the password reset disk.

Use Command Prompt (Advanced Method): This method involves using the Command Prompt from the Windows Recovery Environment. It requires some technical knowledge.

  • Boot your HP notebook into the Windows Recovery Environment. You can usually do this by restarting your PC and pressing a specific key (like F11) during startup.
  • Choose "Troubleshoot" > "Advanced options" > "Command Prompt."
  • In the Command Prompt, type the following commands, pressing Enter after each:

move d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe d:\

copy d:\windows\system32\cmd.exe d:\windows\system32\utilman.exe

  • Close the Command Prompt and restart your PC.
  • When you reach the login screen, click on the "Ease of Access" icon (usually represented by a square with dots).
  • This should open a Command Prompt window. Type the following command to reset the password:

net user [your_username] [new_password]

  • Replace [your_username] with your actual username and [new_password] with the new password you want to set.
  • Close the Command Prompt and log in using the new password.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

OMG, the Command Prompt worked like a charm. I had already tried the other options and y unit had a little different choice of options after Reset my PC and would go straight to Windows login again,  Kudoos for all your help. I so can't find the Kudos/Thumbs Up icon in the lower right corner, so KUDOOS THUMBS UP for helping this old lady get back into her computer after years of not being able to use it.  Yea!!!!!!!
