HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cp0012dx

Hello

I've standard ram ( 8 GB DDR4-2400 SDRAM (1 x 8 GB) on my laptop  (HP ENVY x360 - 15m-cp0012dx), I need to upgrade to 16 GB , the one which available in my country is 8GB DD4-3200 is it ok to proceed with this speed ( by using two ) or what is the maximum allowable speed,

I tried to check via crucial but the answer is not clear all the type of speeds are compatible and this seems not make a sense.

can you please clarify ?

It usually doesn't matter if the rank is single or dual.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both ranks, and there would be no way to tell what rank memory HP should have installed in your notebook.

The only thing I do know is it should have been at least 2400 MHz.

Hi:

Your notebook's processor can only run the memory at a max speed of 2400 MHz.

However, it is fine to buy a faster speed memory chip such as DDR4-2666 or DDR4-3200.

It will automatically bridge to 2400 MHz.

I suggest you just buy one 8 GB chip install it in the empty slot and it should run fine alongside whatever brand memory HP installed in your notebook.

No need to buy two.

Thank you very much, one more question, please

Can I remove this and use 2 of 16 GB -2400

So the total is 32 GB, is it ok as long term, or is 16 GB is maximum (2x8).

You're very welcome.

I believe that notebooks with the AMD Ryzen processors will support up to 2 x 16 GB of memory, even though chapter 1 of the service manual indicates the max is 2 x 8 GB.

You can do this to see how much memory your notebook can support:

1. In the search box, search for cmd and click Run as administrator.

This will open the command prompt.

2. Once command prompt is opened, type wmic memphysical get maxcapacityEx and hit enter.

There, it will show the maximum RAM capacity your PC's motherboard can support.

The capacity is shown as Kilobytes, so you have to convert it to Gigabytes by dividing the number provided in the report by 1,048,576.

The CMD showed: 33554432 which is 32 GB

it seems like it's ok to use 2x16 GB of RAM.

the installed RAM is ( 8GB 2R×8 PC4 - 2133P - SED - 10)

What is 2R×8, and what is 2133P?

And it's ok to use a 16GB pulse 8GB (total 24GB) ?

Hi:

It seems to me that HP installed the wrong speed memory chip in your notebook (2133 MHz).

The HP specs indicate it should have come with a 2400 MHz memory chip.

AMD states memory speed up to 2400 MHz.

2R is the number of memory ranks.  You can read this link for the explanation and there are other links to search.

Yes, you should be fine running a 16 GB memory chip alongside the 8 GB one, but everything is only going to run at 2133 MHz as long as the 8 GB memory chip is installed.

This should be a compatible 16 GB memory chip for your notebook:

No problem, I'm going to replace it anyway.

While the installed one is wrong, can the rank be wrong as well?

What is the way to check my laptop is 1R or 2R?
