Hi @bblthmpr,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

To help figure out what’s going on, could you give me a few more details?

  Your HP laptop model.

Which version of Windows you’re running (e.g., Windows 10, 11).

Whether the touchscreen was working before, or if this is a new issue.

Any recent updates or changes you made before it disappeared.

Kindly please follow the below troubleshooting steps:

1. Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows key + X → Device Manager.
  • Look under Human Interface Devices for “HID‑compliant touch screen.”
  • If it’s missing, that means Windows isn’t detecting the touchscreen driver.
  1. Enable Hidden Devices
    • In Device Manager, click View → Show hidden devices.
    • Sometimes the touchscreen is disabled rather than missing.
  2. Windows Update
    • Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update.
    • Run updates Windows often reinstalls missing drivers automatically.
  3. HP Support Assistant
    • Open HP Support Assistant (preinstalled on most HP laptops).
    • Run a check for updates and drivers.
  4. Manual Driver Install
  • If the driver doesn’t return, you may need to download the touchscreen driver or chipset drivers directly from HP’s support website https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers/laptops for your exact laptop model for the particular serial number of your laptop by selecting the windows version.

I hope this helps.
