Hi @MeetAghera,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing issues with your HP Laptop's HDD after an update. Here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the problem.
- Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve software-related issues. Turn off your laptop completely, wait for a few seconds, and then turn it back on.
- Check the BIOS settings: Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS settings by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually displayed on the screen). Once in the BIOS, navigate to the storage or drive configuration section and ensure that the HDD is recognized and enabled. If it's not, try enabling it and save the changes before exiting the BIOS.
- Reconnect the HDD: If the HDD is not detected, it's possible that the connection between the HDD and the laptop's motherboard has become loose. Shut down your laptop, remove the battery (if it's removable), and locate the HDD compartment. Open it up, detach the HDD, and then carefully reconnect it, ensuring a secure connection. Close the compartment, reinsert the battery (if applicable), and start your laptop again to check if the HDD is recognized.
- Check Device Manager: Go to the Device Manager on your laptop. You can usually access it by right-clicking on the Start menu and selecting "Device Manager" from the list. Look for any yellow exclamation marks or warnings next to the HDD or any related devices. If you see any issues, right-click on the affected device and select "Update driver" to see if a driver update can resolve the problem.
- Perform a system restore: If the HDD stopped working immediately after an update, it's possible that the update caused a compatibility issue. You can try performing a system restore to revert your laptop back to a previous state. Search for "System Restore" in the Start menu, open the tool, and follow the on-screen instructions to choose a restore point before the update was installed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
