@kaire, Hello and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

If your HP Notebook's fingerprint scanner is showing as incompatible with Windows Hello, here are some steps to help you troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue:

Check Hardware Compatibility

Not all fingerprint readers support Windows Hello. To verify compatibility:

  • Visit HP guide on Windows Hello sign-in options.
  • Ensure your notebook model includes a fingerprint reader that supports biometric authentication via Windows Hello.

Update Fingerprint Driver

Outdated or incorrect drivers can cause compatibility issues.

  • Go to HP Software and Driver Downloads and enter your notebook model.
  • Download and install the latest Fingerprint Reader driver.
  • Alternatively, open Device Manager, expand Biometric Devices, right-click your fingerprint reader, and select Update driver.

Enable Biometric Devices in BIOS

Some HP notebooks require biometric features to be enabled in BIOS:

  • Restart your PC and press Esc repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu.
  • Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  • Navigate to Security > Biometric Devices and ensure it's Enabled.
  • Save changes and exit BIOS.

Set Up Windows Hello

Once the fingerprint reader is recognized:

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options.
  • Under Fingerprint Recognition (Windows Hello), click Set up and follow the prompts.

Run HP Diagnostics
