Hi @lomabeauty
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand you're having trouble with the microphone on your HP EliteBook 840 G5, even after installing the Bang & Olufsen audio driver. I'll be glad to help work through this with you.
To better understand the situation, could you kindly share a few details?
- Is the issue affecting the built-in microphone, an external headset microphone, or both?
- In Device Manager, do you see any warning symbols next to Audio Inputs and Outputs or Sound, Video and Game Controllers?
- Have you tested the microphone in multiple applications such as Teams, Zoom, Voice Recorder, or HP Presence?
In the meantime, kindly try the following troubleshooting steps:
- Press Windows + I and go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone.
- Ensure Microphone Access is turned On.
- Verify that apps are allowed to access the microphone.
- Open Device Manager:
- Expand Audio Inputs and Outputs.
- Right-click Microphone Array and select Update Driver.
- Also check under Sound, Video and Game Controllers for the audio device and update it.
- Run the HP Audio Diagnostics:
- Open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows.
- Navigate to Component Tests > Audio and complete the microphone test.
- Restore the recommended audio driver:
- Visit the HP Software and Driver Downloads page for the HP EliteBook 840 G5.
- Install the latest Realtek High Definition Audio Driver available for your operating system, then restart the notebook.
- Run the Windows Microphone Troubleshooter:
- Go to Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other Troubleshooters.
- Run the Recording Audio troubleshooter.
