Hi @nelsonojus
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
I understand the mouse is not responding normally and only starts working after pressing the Windows key + Delete key combination on your HP computer running Windows 7 (64-bit). That behavior can sometimes indicate a temporary issue with the mouse driver, USB communication, or a keyboard shortcut that is waking the input devices.
Please try the following steps:
Test a different USB port
- Disconnect the mouse.
- Connect it directly to another USB port on the computer.
- If available, try a USB port on the rear of the system rather than the front panel.
Restart the mouse driver
- Press Windows + R.
- Type devmgmt.msc and press Enter.
- Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click the mouse device and select Disable.
- Wait a few seconds, then Enable it again.
- If Disable is not available, select Uninstall, restart the PC, and allow Windows to reinstall the driver.
Check USB power management
- Open Device Manager.
- Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
- Open each USB Root Hub entry.
- Select the Power Management tab.
- Clear the option Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.
- Click OK and restart the computer.
Verify the mouse functionality
- If possible, test the mouse on another computer.
- If another mouse is available, connect it to your HP computer and check whether it works normally without using the key combination.
Run HP Hardware Diagnostics (if supported by your HP model)
- Restart the PC.
- Repeatedly tap F2 during startup.
- Run the available Mouse/Input Device or Component Tests and review the results.
Check for keyboard-related behavior
- Since the mouse responds after pressing keyboard keys, ensure there are no stuck keys on the keyboard.
- Disconnect any external keyboard temporarily and test the mouse again.
Install the latest HP and chipset drivers
- Visit the HP support page for your exact HP model.
- Install the latest chipset and USB controller drivers available for Windows 7.
- Restart the system after installation.
If the issue continues, please share the exact HP product/model number and whether the mouse is wired or wireless so we can suggest the most relevant guidance.
Take care, and have an amazing day!
