Hi @Morolami

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating this issue can be, but don’t worry—we’ll work through it together. The "Code 10" error typically indicates a driver or firmware issue.

Here are some steps to help resolve this problem:

Step 1: Restart the I2C HID Device

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Human Interface Devices and locate I2C HID Device.
  3. Right-click on it and select Disable device.
  4. Wait a few seconds, then right-click again and select Enable device.
  5. Restart your laptop and check if the touchpad works.

Step 2: Uninstall and Reinstall the Driver

  1. In Device Manager, right-click on I2C HID Device and select Uninstall device.
  2. Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device and confirm.
  3. Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver. If it doesn’t:
    • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest touchpad driver for your model.
    • Install the driver manually and restart your laptop.

Step 3: Update the Intel Serial IO Driver

  1. Go to the HP Support website and search for your laptop model.
  2. Download and install the latest Intel Serial IO Driver under the Chipset section.
  3. Restart your laptop after installation.

Step 4: Enable Touchpad in BIOS

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 repeatedly to enter the BIOS setup.
  2. Navigate to Advanced Settings and look for Internal Pointing Device.
  3. Ensure it is set to Enabled.
  4. Save changes and exit.

Step 5: Check for Windows Updates

  1. Press Win + I to open Settings and go to Windows Update.
  2. Install any pending updates, especially those related to drivers or firmware.

Step 6: Use HP Support Assistant

  1. Open the HP Support Assistant application on your laptop.
  2. Check for any driver updates or troubleshooting tools related to the touchpad.
  3. Install updates and restart your laptop.

Step 7: Reset Windows (Optional)

If the issue persists, consider resetting Windows while keeping your files:

  1. Go to Settings > System > Recovery.
  2. Select Reset this PC and choose Keep my files.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know how it goes or if you need additional help! 😊
