I've got an old 8540w EliteBook

product number VD444AV ,, NVidia graphics, I7 Q740 processor, bios 68CVD. that has a replacement hd. I reinstalled windows 7 pro 64bit that originally came with the laptop when i bought it. Unfortunately many drivers are missing  that also prevent me from connecting to the internet. Can anyone help with how to download drivers and how do i properly copy to usb drive to run/install on my EliteBook? I tried downloading from list of drivers provided here  but when i tried to run/install from my flash drive i got a  message saying they were corrupted. Please help

Post the hardware ID for the Network Controller device so I can figure out what model Wi-Fi card HP installed in your notebook.

 

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device:

 

How to Find Drivers for Unknown Devices in the Device Manager

 

Then I will post the link to the Wi-Fi driver you need and after that, the first thing you need to do is download Microsoft Edge for Windows 7 so you have a usable browser.

 

Download the Wi-Fi driver I post from another PC. 

 

Copy the file from the PC to the USB flash drive.

 

Plug the flash drive into your notebook's USB port, copy the file from the USB flash drive to the Windows desktop and double-click to run the exe file.

 

Once you have connected to the internet on your 8540w for Microsoft Edge, select the W8.1/W7 download from the black dropdown button at the link below:

 

Download Microsoft Edge: Windows, macOS, iOS & Android
