I am not able to update my bios. It shuts down automatically in the middle or when it starts to update. I am using Windows 10.

Hi! @Ashu5409

Does the laptop shut down while you are at the BIOS page?

Try restoring the BIOS to default on your PC and check if it helps.

1.    Turn off the computer and wait five seconds.
2.    Press the Power button to start the computer and repeatedly press the F10 key to enter the BIOS setup menu.
3.    On the BIOS Setup screen, press F9 to select and load the BIOS Setup Default settings.
4.    Press F10 to Save and Exit.
5.    Use the arrow keys to select Yes, then press Enter when asked Exit Saving Changes?
6.    Follow the prompts to restart your computer.

Also, try the steps recommended below.

  1. Turn off the computer, and then connect the power cord.

  2. Press and hold the Windows key  and the B key at the same time, and then press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.

  3. Release the Power button but continue pressing the Windows and B keys. You might hear a series of beeps.

The HP BIOS Update screen displays and the recovery begins automatically. Follow any on-screen prompts to continue the startup to complete the recovery.

HP BIOS Update recovery in progress

    • If the HP BIOS Update screen does not display, repeat the previous steps but press the Windows key and the V key. If the screen still does not display, your computer might not support the feature or there is a hard drive issue. Continue to the next step to install a BIOS recovery file from the HP website.

    • If the Power light turns off, the Power button was held too long. Repeat the previous steps, making sure to hold the button for only 2 to 3 seconds.

    • If a BIOS recovery message repeatedly displays, continue to the next step to install an updated BIOS version.

Also, if the issue still persists after trying out the steps, try running a system diagnostics test on the PC and check if the hardware components on the PC are functioning correctly.

Refer this article to know more information about running system diagnostics on your PC. Click Here

If the test fails or if the PC shuts down while running the test it is a hardware issue with the PC.

Thnx for the reply. I was able to update the bios yesterday. But one problem still exists which is the keyboard. My keyboard stops working after some time(maybe after 1hour or something). But the problem has been reduced because before bios update I was not even able to sign in the windows.

@Ashu5409,

Thanks for the update.

Have you tried checking with an external keyboard? Does the issue persist?

Try the steps recommended below

In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Click View, and then select Show hidden devices.
Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard name, and then click Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
Remove all devices in the Keyboards category, and then restart the computer.
The keyboard should now work correctly.

Hope this helps!

Take Care! 🙂

Sorry for the late reply. Too much workload! I tried this one as you have suggested but the problem still persists, I tried with an external keyboard and it's working perfectly. Sometimes I am getting an error with bluescreen i.e. Driver Power State Failure.  A small beep sound comes up before the keyboard stops working. and also something 'watchdog violation bluescreen error'. Thnx!!

@Ashu5409,

Did you try running a system diagnostics test on the PC?

Thanks for the update.

Try the steps recommended below.

1) On your keyboard, press the Win+R (Windows logo key  and R key) at the same time to invoke the Run box.

2) Type control panel and click OK to open the Control Panel window.

3) View by Small icons and select Power Options.

4) Ensure Balanced (recommended) is selected, and click Change plan settings next to it.

5) Click Change advanced power settings.

6) Expand Wireless Adapter Settings and Power Saving Mode, then change the setting to Maximum Performance.

7)  Expand PCI Express and Link State Power Management, then change the setting to Maximum power savings.

😎 Click Apply then OK.

9) Reboot your computer to check to see if the Driver Power State Failure error is gone.

Perform an SFC scan

Press Windows Key + X to open Win + X menu and choose Command Prompt (Admin) from the list.

When Command Prompt opens, enter sfc /scannow and press Enter to run it.

The scanning process will now start. Keep in mind that SFC scan can take about 10 minutes, so don’t interrupt it.

Let me know how it goes!
