Hello @Dooleygone,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
A specific OS was not specified so for a factory reset on Windows 10:
- Open Settings
- Navigate to Update & Security
- Select Recovery
- Select Get Started under Reset this PC
- Select Remove everything
- Select Cloud or Local - it doesn't matter
- Select Change settings on the next page
- Enable Clean data? and disable Download Windows?
- Proceed with the reset
This should be sufficient but if you want to be extra safe and you're simply discarding the laptop, not donating or gifting, you can consult a local hardware store or just open up the laptop and physically destroy the hard drive.
