Hi @OrangeJim123,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP laptop, where the orange charging light turns on briefly and then turns off, could be due to several factors. Here are some common reasons and potential fixes.

Power Adapter Issue

  • Problem: The power adapter or the cable might be faulty.
  • Fix: Try using a different power adapter that is compatible with your HP laptop. If the laptop charges with a different adapter, then your original adapter is likely the problem.

Battery Issue

  • Problem: The battery might be malfunctioning or failing.
  • Fix: If your laptop has a removable battery, try removing it and then plugging in the power adapter to see if the laptop powers on. If it does, the battery might need to be replaced. For laptops with non-removable batteries, you might need to take it to a service center.

Charging Port Issue

  • Problem: The charging port on the laptop might be damaged or loose.

Internal Hardware Issue

  • Problem: There could be an internal issue such as a problem with the motherboard or charging circuit.

Power Reset

  • Problem: Sometimes, residual electrical charge can interfere with the charging process.
  • Fix: Perform a power reset by following these steps:
    1. Turn off the laptop and unplug the power adapter.
    2. Remove the battery if it is removable.
    3. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds.
    4. Reconnect the battery and power adapter, then try turning on the laptop and charging it.

BIOS/Software Issue

  • Problem: There could be a software or BIOS issue affecting charging.
  • Fix: Ensure your BIOS and drivers are up to date. You can check HP's support website for updates. Additionally, perform a system reset:
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Disconnect all external devices.
    3. Press the power button to turn it on and immediately press the Esc key repeatedly to open the Startup Menu.
    4. Select the BIOS Setup (usually F10).
    5. Reset the BIOS to default settings.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
