I have a new hp laptop running windows 10 and I cannot find any way to prepare a report, no office on computer, how do you type a report?

If you scroll down the list of applications on your desktop screen, you'll find a selection named, "Windows Accessories".

In it, there are two simple word processors - WordPad and the simpler NotePad.

 

Most HP laptops come with a "Trial" version of Office 365.  This would require a purchase after the time expires...
