Hi @dspread,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP ENVY laptop is automatically launching the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool, which could indicate a potential hardware issue. However, if it's interrupting your work and you want to stop it from popping up, you can try the following steps.

Check Scheduled Tasks: Sometimes, diagnostic tools are scheduled to run automatically by the manufacturer. You can check if there's a scheduled task for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and disable it. Here's how:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type taskschd.msc and press Enter.
  • In the Task Scheduler window, navigate to Task Scheduler Library > Hewlett-Packard > HP Diagnostics.
  • Right-click on the task related to HP PC Hardware Diagnostics and select Disable.

Disable Startup Programs: It's possible that the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool is set to run at startup. You can disable it from running at startup by following these steps:

  • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
  • Go to the "Startup" tab.
  • Look for any HP-related entries, especially ones related to diagnostics, and disable them by right-clicking and selecting "Disable".

Check HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant sometimes includes diagnostic tools. You can check its settings to see if there's an option to disable automatic hardware diagnostics.

  • Open HP Support Assistant from the Start menu or search bar.
  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Look for any options related to hardware diagnostics and disable them if present.

Update Drivers and BIOS: Sometimes, outdated drivers or BIOS can cause unexpected behavior. Ensure that your laptop's drivers and BIOS are up to date by visiting the HP support website and downloading/installing any available updates for your model.

By following these steps, you should be able to stop the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool from popping up and interrupting your work.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
