Hi @cristianpe,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
I understand that you are having issues with the battery.
If your new HP laptop is experiencing performance drops when connected to the charger and the battery is below 100%, even after updating drivers and BIOS, here are some additional steps you can take to troubleshoot and address the issue:
1. Check Power Settings:
- Adjust Power Plan Settings:
- Go to Settings > System > Power & sleep.
- Click on Additional power settings.
- Select Change plan settings next to your current power plan.
- Click on Change advanced power settings.
- Expand the Processor power management section and set Minimum processor state to 5% for both On battery and Plugged in.
- Set System cooling policy to Active for both On battery and Plugged in.
2. Check Battery Health and Calibration:
Battery Report:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
- Check the generated report (usually saved as an HTML file) for battery health and performance details.
Battery Calibration:
- Fully charge your laptop to 100%.
- Let it discharge to 0% and shut down.
- Recharge it to 100% again. This can help recalibrate the battery sensors.
3. Check for Thermal Throttling:
Monitor Temperatures:
- Use tools like HWMonitor or Core Temp to check CPU and GPU temperatures.
- If temperatures are high, ensure your laptop’s vents are clear and consider using a cooling pad.
Thermal Management:
- Ensure that HP Support Assistant is up to date and check for any thermal management settings or updates.
4. Disable Battery Saving Features Temporarily:
- Battery Saving Mode:
- Go to Settings > System > Battery.
- Turn off battery-saving features and check if performance improves.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

- Reinstall Power Management Drivers:
- Open Device Manager (right-click Start button).
- Expand the System devices section.
- Right-click on Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and select Uninstall device.

7. Check BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Power Settings in BIOS:
- Enter BIOS/UEFI by pressing the appropriate key during startup (usually Esc, F2, or Del).
- Look for any power management or battery settings and ensure they are configured correctly.
- Ensure Intel SpeedStep or similar power management features are enabled.
8. Perform a Clean Boot:
- Clean Boot:
- Press Windows + R, type msconfig, and press Enter.
- Go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, and click Disable all.
