Keys qwer uiop are not working

 

I was doing homework and I just noticed they stopped working and I can't figure out why.  

I have taken extremely cautious care of this laptop over the last 2 years and have never dropped, spilled or done anything warranting damage to it.  

 

I have ran all the tests, system diagnostics, restarts along with the whole 9 yards but can't seem to get it to work.  

 

I can't believe that the keyboard may have broke because of how much care I have given this laptop so I'm praying someone knows what's up and can help me.    I'm a student and cannot afford a new keyboard.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news -- but a new keyboard is likely to be the cheapest option you have.  You can't buy or replace individual keys, and if the membrane under the keys has gone bad, that would need to be replaced, as well.

If you are experienced at laptop repairs, you can often replace a keyboard for $25 for a new one and a half-hours work. I have done this on older HP laptops.

But, if you're NOT, there is a serious risk of breaking fragile connectors and cables doing this -- so I do not recommend it.

Instead, I would recommend you hunting down a local laptop repair place to have THEM replace the keyboard. Sometimes, on some models, you have to replace the entire top surface of the laptop, not just the keyboard. So you should get an estimate of what is involved before you have the work done.

That is unfortunate to hear.   

 

I was able to get the keys to work. I simply closed the laptop, flipped it on its back, and gave it a few firm knocks like knocking a door and alas, my keyboard works. 

 

This tells me there must be a loose wire or connection which I expect not to be an expensive fix which requires an entire keyboard replacement correct?
