my ryzen 7 7840hs cpu is around 4-4.2 ghz clock speeds and not reaching higher. In product information it says reaching up to 5.1 ghz. I changed power plan to ultimate, omen gaming hub settings all maximum performance but still its not reaching high speeds resulting lower frames in cpu heavy games. I have latest windows update and driver updates.

Hi @Bengin,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your Ryzen 7 7840HS CPU isn’t reaching its advertised boost clock speeds, there could be several reasons behind this. Here are a few steps to help troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.
Check Thermal Management:
- Ensure your laptop’s cooling system is working properly. If the CPU is overheating, it may throttle down to avoid damage. Check for dust buildup in the cooling vents and make sure the fans are functioning correctly.
- Use software like HWMonitor or Core Temp to monitor the CPU temperatures.
Verify Power Settings:
- Even though you've set the power plan to "Ultimate," double-check that all power settings are optimized for performance. Go to Control Panel > Power Options > High performance and make sure the CPU is set to run at maximum performance.
BIOS/UEFI Settings:
- Check your BIOS/UEFI settings for any power-saving features or CPU throttling settings that might be limiting performance. Sometimes, these settings can affect the CPU’s ability to reach its maximum clock speeds.
Check for Throttling:
- Use tools like AMD Ryzen Master to check if there’s any CPU throttling occurring. This tool can provide insights into how the CPU is performing and if it’s being limited by thermal or power constraints.
Update BIOS/UEFI:
- Make sure your BIOS/UEFI is up-to-date. HP often releases updates that can improve system performance and stability.
Power Adapter:
- Ensure you’re using the correct power adapter for your laptop. A lower wattage power adapter can cause the system to throttle performance to stay within power limits.
Background Processes:
- Close any unnecessary background applications that might be consuming CPU resources or causing the CPU to throttle.

Check Omen Gaming Hub:
- In the Omen Gaming Hub, make sure that the performance settings are correctly applied. Sometimes, settings may not be saved or applied properly, so recheck them.
Battery Mode:
- If you’re running on battery power, the CPU may not reach its maximum performance. Plug in your laptop and see if performance improves.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify why your CPU isn’t reaching its maximum clock speeds and take appropriate action to resolve the issue.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
