I have just bought the laptop, the scree background colour is a greyscale which hurts my eyes I want a white background colour

I believe "Dark Mode" or "High Contrast" settings are not active unless you make them so.

 

That said, the display color settings are adjustable as are the intensity and brightness of the background.

Settings > Personalization > Colors > Choose your mode = Light

Scroll down

Related settings

Select Contrast Themes > None

NOTES – High Contrast / Dark Mode

  • If you are running High Contrast or “Dark Mode” and one or more apps will not open at all, try switching to None (for contrast) or “Light” for mode. 
  • After the application opens, set up the printer –
  • Later, if you wish to do so, try setting the mode back to your preferred setting.
