Hi @NautilusU616,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
I understand that experiencing slow boot-up and wake-up times on your computer can be frustrating. Here are several steps and settings you can look into to potentially enhance your computer's performance:
1. Review Startup Programs
- Access Startup Manager: Type msconfig in the Windows search bar and press Enter.
- Startup Tab: Navigate to the startup tab and disable unnecessary startup programs. High-impact programs can significantly slow down your boot time.
2. Uninstall Unnecessary Programs
- Control Panel: Open the Control Panel and go to "Programs" > "Programs and Features."
- Uninstall: Remove applications that you no longer use. They might be consuming background resources even when not in use.
3. Adjust Visual Effects
- System Properties: Right-click Computer on your desktop or in File Explorer and select Properties.
- Advanced System Settings: Select Advanced system settings > Performance section > Settings.
- Adjust for Best Performance: Choose the option to adjust for best performance to disable animations and other effects that consume system resources.
4. Clean Temporary Files
- Disk Cleanup: Click Start, type Disk Cleanup, and select it from the results. This will remove unnecessary temporary files, freeing up system resources.
5. Check for Malware
- Virus Scan: Run a comprehensive virus scan using your installed antivirus software to ensure that malware isn’t causing the slowdown.
6. Check for Hardware Issues
- Check RAM: Ensure you have sufficient RAM for your usage. Insufficient RAM can cause slow performance.
- Hard Drive Health: If you are using an HDD, consider upgrading to an SSD for faster data access and boot times.
7. Disable Fast Startup
- Control Panel: Navigate to "Control Panel" > "Hardware and Sound" > "Power Options."
- Choose What the Power Buttons Do: Click "Choose what the power buttons do" and modify the settings under "Shutdown settings" to disable fast startup if needed.
8. Update Drivers and Windows
- Device Manager: Check for updates to your system’s drivers.
- Windows Update: Ensure that your Windows version is up-to-date by accessing Windows Update through the settings.
I hope this will help.
Take care and have a good day.
