sp135668 (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) breaks Windows 10 1909 on HP ProBook 640 G8

Dear community,

since few weeks we have a problem with softpaq sp135668 (Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver) on all ours HP ProBook 640 G8 on Windows 10 1909.
After installing this driver and rebooting, the computer goes into automatic repair mode and it can't be longer used.
We didn't have this Problem before and in fact with the previous release of the same Driver (sp112703) everything works fine.
The situation is even worst when we use HPIA, because using the Online functionalities of the Tool, we are enable to tell HPIA to download the previous version of the Driver.

Therefore, right now in our Company we are unable to use HPIA and we are proceding with a manual Installation of all the Drivers.

Is there someone from HP who could help in solving this issue?

Thank you in advance.

Reb

Hi, @rkaro

Did you read the release notes for the driver you installed?

It tells you what version of Windows 10 the driver is supported on and v1909 isn't one of them.

Hi,

Just wondering why you are still using the 1909 edition since it is at end of servicing since May 2011.

Regards,

David

Hi,

maybe you meant "since May 2021" 🙂

However, we use the "Education" version, which is officially supported for 30 Months. It will expire in May 2022.

Yeah, 2011 would have been a long time. 😀

Are the notebooks otherwise up to date?

I see there is even a BIOS dated 5 Nov 2021

regards,

David

Hello

an option could be use HP Image Assistant in offline mode.

Offline mode means your PC will copy softpaq from a shell on your network. if you don't have sp135668 , I will get the error.

HP IA in offline mode just copies and installs the softpaq available in the share where you will put your softpaqs.

This share must be a folder mantained using HP Client Management Script Library, configuring the repository for HPIA offline mode.

if you are interested  let me know I will provide some info.

here is another interesting site: https://developers.hp.com/community/blog/hp-client-management

bye

Hello

you are right

640 G8 supports 1909 , as writen here: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/ish_3913140-3876462-16

also HP CLient Management script Library

Get-SoftpaqList -platform 87ED -os win10 -osver 1909 | format-table

returns this line

sp135668 Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver Driver - Storage 18.6.1.1016

in any case, if you want to avoid manual installation , you can use HP Imageassistant offline mode , avoiding to install sp135668.

bye

You're very welcome.

I guess that HP doesn't read their own driver release notes.

I don't see a compelling reason for you use that driver version.

I would stick with the one that is working for you (sp112703) ,until you can update the OS's to a later version of W10 Education edition.
