HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba103nj
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

I have a problem with my screen, it stopped auto-rotating when I changed the potion of the laptop. (I have the pavilon 360x which has a touch screen and can rotated like in our phones)

I believe it's a driver problem since I  just formatted the laptop (the warranty is over)

I would be glad if you could direct me to the specific driver- I tried to look it up on your website, but I just don't know the specific name and I believe its an advanced driver..

I really appreciate any help you can provide.

@noa1weiss, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're having trouble with the auto-rotation feature on your HP Pavilion x360 (14-ba103nj) after formatting. This is a common issue that often arises due to missing or improperly installed sensor drivers. Let's go through the steps to restore the auto-rotation functionality.

Check Sensor Support in Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager:
    • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Look for Sensors:
    • Expand the Sensors section. You should see entries like Kionix Sensor Fusion Device or Intel Integrated Sensor Solution.
    • Also, check under Human Interface Devices for entries like HID Sensor Collection.
  3. Identify Issues:
    • If any of these entries are missing or have a yellow warning icon, it indicates that the drivers need to be installed or updated.

Install Necessary Drivers

You will need to install the appropriate drivers for your device:

1. Intel Sensor Driver (Intel Integrated Sensor Solution)

2. Intel Chipset and MEI Drivers

  • These drivers ensure proper communication between hardware components.
  • Download and install the Chipset Driver and Intel Management Engine Interface Driver from HP’s support page.

Reboot and Test Rotation

  1. Restart Your Laptop:
    • After installing the drivers, reboot your device.
  2. Test Auto-Rotation:
    • Physically rotate the screen to see if it auto-rotates.
    • Ensure that Rotation Lock is disabled:
      • Go to Settings > System > Display and check that "Rotation lock" is turned off.

Extra Troubleshooting (if it still doesn't work)

  • Check Windows Sensor Service:
    • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Locate Sensor Monitoring Service and ensure it is running and set to Automatic.
  • Display Settings:
    • Go to Settings > System > Display and check if the option "Allow the screen to auto-rotate" is available and enabled.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi, I think you misunderstood me... My laptop is auto-rotating now, but it doesn't enter *tablet mode*

a mood where  it locks our keyboard and adds an icon on the start line to access the touch keyboard. So that the laptop will be like a tablet.

Thanks for the clarification @noa1weiss, You're right—auto-rotation and tablet mode are related but handled by different components in Windows and the driver stack.

Since your screen auto-rotates but tablet mode isn't triggered automatically when folding the laptop, here's what’s most likely happening:

After formatting, the sensor or detection system responsible for hinge position or convertible mode isn’t working properly—Windows doesn’t know when the device has been folded into tablet mode.

This is typically controlled by:

  • HP 3D DriveGuard
  • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution
  • HID Event Filter Driver (crucial for mode-switch detection)Most commonly missing

Please try these steps,

Step 1: Install the HP HID Event Driver

This driver allows Windows to detect hinge movements and switch modes (like clamshell ↔ tent ↔ tablet).

  1. HP HID Event Utility (Sometimes called HP Quick Launch Buttons or HP 3D DriveGuard)
  2. It may be listed under Driver – Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices or Software-Solutions

Step 2: Install or Reinstall the Intel Sensor and Chipset Drivers

From the same page:

  • Intel Integrated Sensor Solution
  • Intel Serial IO Driver
  • Intel Chipset Installation Utility

Step 3: Restart and Test

After installing those drivers:

  1. Reboot.
  2. Fold the laptop into tablet mode.
  3. Windows should:
  • Lock the keyboard and touchpad.
  • Switch automatically into tablet mode (or show a notification asking if you want to).
  • Display the touch keyboard icon in the taskbar.

Optional Check: Tablet Mode Settings in Windows

  • Go to Settings > System > Tablet
  • Under “When I use this device as a tablet,” set:

“Always switch to tablet mode” or

“Ask me before switching”

I hope this helps!

If my response resolves your issue, please click “Accepted Solution” to help others find the answer. Also, don’t forget to click the “Yes” button to say thanks!

Take care and have a great day.
