Hi @A195,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If certain keys on your HP 17.3 Inch Laptop PC are not working, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.

  • Restart your laptop: Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve temporary software glitches.
  • Check for physical obstructions: Ensure that there is no debris or dirt lodged under the keys. Use a can of compressed air or gently clean the keys with a soft cloth to remove any particles.
  • Check the keyboard language settings: If some keys are producing unexpected characters, it's possible that your keyboard language settings are incorrect. Make sure the language and keyboard layout settings match your keyboard type.
  • Update or reinstall keyboard drivers: Outdated or corrupted keyboard drivers can cause malfunctioning keys. Go to the HP support website, locate the drivers and software section for your laptop model, and download the latest keyboard drivers. Install them and restart your laptop.
  • Use an external keyboard: Connect an external USB keyboard to your laptop and check if the problematic keys work with the external keyboard. If they do, it might indicate a hardware issue with the laptop's built-in keyboard.
  • Perform a system scan for malware: Malware can sometimes interfere with keyboard functionality. Run a thorough scan using a reliable antivirus program to ensure your system is clean.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
