Microsoft Windows 11

Just purchased an HP 17-cp2xxx laptop  , used it once and all was good but in my haste to get apps loaded and other personalization's I seem to have somehow inadvertently deleted the HDI compliant touch screen driver/s.  I have went through most all the posted solutions here and other boards having no luck.  Accessing through device manger>human interface devices> there is no driver/s for HID-compliant touch screen, only HID compliant devices which i checked, it's not what i need.

any help is greatly appreciated

Hi @Les315

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for explaining everything so clearly—it’s easy to see how this could happen when you’re setting up a new laptop and trying to get everything just right.

The good news is, we’ve got a few recommended steps that can help bring your touchscreen back to life. Let’s take it one step at a time.

Windows Update: Sometimes re-running Windows Update can help reinstall missing drivers. To do this:

  • Open the Start Menu and go to "Settings."
  • Navigate to "Update & Security" and select "Windows Update."
  • Click "Check for updates" and install any available updates.

HP Support Assistant: This software can help find and install drivers specific to your HP laptop.

  • Open the Start Menu and search for HP Support Assistant.
  • Open the application and go to the "Updates" section.
  • Check for any updates related to drivers and install them.

Device Manager - Scan for hardware changes: You may try to scan for hardware changes to see if Windows can detect the touch screen device.

  • Right-click on the Start Menu and choose "Device Manager."
  • Click on "Action" and select "Scan for hardware changes."

Driver Installation from HP’s Website: You can manually search and download drivers from HP’s official website.

  • Visit the HP Support Website.
  • Enter your laptop’s model number (HP 17-cp2xxx) and navigate to the driver section.
  • Look for any available drivers related to the touch screen and install them.

System Restore: If none of these steps work, consider using System Restore to revert your system settings back to a point where the touch screen was working.

  • Search for "System Restore" in the Start menu.
  • Follow the prompts to restore the system to an earlier state.

If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊

Take care, and have an amazing day!
