HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0190TU (533T7PA)...the touchpad of my laptop stopped working....i have tried many tips and tricks like updating, disabling and uninstalling the 12C HID device driver but none seems to work. my PC runs on windows 11 version 24 H2. This version of windows 11 doesn't have drivers available on Hp support. What should i do? i am not sure whether it is a software or a hardware malfunction. Any help will  be appreciated

@Shoaib88999, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Here’s a step-by-step guide to help resolve the touchpad issue on your HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0190TU (533T7PA) running Windows 11 version 24H2.
Confirm Touchpad is Enabled in BIOS

Sometimes the touchpad can be disabled at the firmware level.

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  • Ensure Touchpad is enabled.
  • Save changes and exit.

Reinstall the I2C HID Device Driver

Since you’ve already tried uninstalling, let’s try a clean reinstall:

  • Open Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Right-click I2C HID Device > Uninstall device.
  • Check Delete the driver software for this device if available.
  • Restart your PC. Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.

If it doesn’t, download the driver manually from HP official page: HP Pavilion x360 Convertible 14-dy0190TU (533T7PA) Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

Use HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware failure:

If the test fails, it’s likely a hardware issue.

Try Compatibility Mode for Older Drivers

  • Download the Windows 11 23H2 Synaptics or ELAN touchpad driver from the HP site.
  • Right-click the installer > Properties > Compatibility tab.
  • Check Run this program in compatibility mode for: and select Windows 10 or 11 23H2.
  • Install and restart.

Check Windows Settings

  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
  • Ensure the touchpad is enabled.
  • If the option is missing, it confirms a driver or hardware issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

thanks for the reply. I could not find the 'Advanced' option in the BIOS to reach to the 'Built in Device' option

i however found something that worked for me. I disabled the I2C HID device in the device manager and restarted the computer and then enabled it and it worked. But the touchpad functioned for 15 minutes are so before it stopped again. I assume it is not a hardware issue or i am not sure. I would appreciate anything that will help me solve this issue permanently

You're on the right track! Since disabling and re-enabling the I2C HID device temporarily restores your touchpad, the issue is likely driver-related rather than a hardware failure. Here are some additional steps to try for a more permanent fix:

Advanced Fixes for I2C HID Touchpad Issues

Disable Power Management for I2C HID Device

  • Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
  • Expand Human Interface Devices and locate I2C HID Device.
  • Right-click and select PropertiesPower Management tab.
  • Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  • Click OK and restart your laptop.

Reinstall the I2C HID Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click I2C HID Device and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop—Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
  • If the issue persists, download the latest touchpad driver from your laptop manufacturer’s website.

Check Windows Update for Driver Fixes

  • Go to SettingsWindows UpdateAdvanced OptionsOptional Updates.
  • Install any available driver updates related to HID or touchpad.

Perform a System File Check (SFC & DISM)

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Win + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
  • Run the following commands one by one:sfc /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  • Restart your laptop after the scan completes.

Since your touchpad works briefly before stopping, disabling power management and reinstalling the driver might be the key to a lasting fix. Let me know how it goes—you're handling this issue with great patience! 🚀

Thanks.

I have tried nearly all possible solutions that I could but the touchpad's erratic behaviour is constant...I appreciate all the help but I need this thing working...so kindly guide me regarding what should be my next move....one more thing I would like to highlight is that the model of my pc and this version of windows 11 ( 24H2) doesn't have the drivers available on hp support. I think you people should update ur database as well
