The touchpad is overly sensative. I've set the sensitivity at the lowest level and still it is much too sensative. I downloaded the most recent driver and the problem still exists.  I call HP and they suggest the problem is not software.  Has HP had a hardware problem with the touchpad? Or could this be something else?

@Wadja,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post you are facing issues with the touchpad sensitivity on your HP notebook. No worries, I'll be glad to help you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any software or hardware changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to update the Bios?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let's start off by updating the Bios, Chipset and synaptics drivers from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

If the issue persists, I recommend you to uninstall any generic synaptic drivers showing up for the touchpad (if available) under hidden devices from the device manager:

  • Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Command Prompt.

  • At a command prompt, type the following command , and then press ENTER:

set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1

  • Type the following command a command prompt, and then press ENTER:

start devmgmt.msc

  • Troubleshoot the devices and drivers in Device Manager.
    NOTE: Click Show hidden devices on the View menu in Device Manager before you can see devices that are not connected to the computer.

  • When you finish troubleshooting, close Device Manager.

  • Type exit at the command prompt.

    Note that when you close the command prompt window, Window clears the devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 variable that you set in step 2 and prevents ghosted devices from being displayed when you click Show hidden devices.

And then download a new version of the synaptic drivers using this link: Click here

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Your answer is too technical. You didn't provide any explantion on why the laptop may be misperforming and didn't answer my question whether the issue could be a hardware or software problem.

I downloaded the new bios, but the laptop wouldn't let me replace the older bios.

I've downloaded the most recent driver and the problem persists.  Is this a problem unique to my laptop or are other customers having the same problem?

If you can't help, is there someone who speaks English who I can contact who can help? I'm living in Spain at the moment.

Best regards

@Wadja,

It's great to have you back and your patience is greatly appreciated.

I understand you want to know if the touchpad sensitive is it a software or hardware issue. Yes, it doesn't look like a hardware issue. This could be a settings or software related issue.

I would suggest you try to check the settings first and if the issue still persists, I would suggest you follow the steps suggested from the previous post.

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help you.

Take care now and do have a fabulous week ahead. 🙂
Regards,
