Spend days trying to activate Office. Purchased the laptop from Amazon. in. It includes Office Home and Student. Tried many things. I have downloaded sp78285.exe from HP (will not run). I have tried Microsoft recovery tools as well. It gave me an obvious answer (office not associated with account-I know that, don't I?). When HP produced this piece of crap, is there a way out for people who got screwed? What do we do? How do we get Office to recognize that the software on the laptop is one we paid HP for?

First off, the version of Office that comes preloaded on HP PCs is a trial version, and since that expires, it does NOT activate.
IF you are trying activate that version, you will not succeed.
Second, if you believe that you purchased Office included with your HP PC, then you will have to contact HP Customer Support directly because we here can not assist you in that activation.
