Hi @AkshayAsthana

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing what you're experiencing—it’s genuinely frustrating when the Fn key locks and disrupts your keyboard flow.

Let’s walk through a few clear, sensory-rich steps to help you regain full control of your function keys on your HP laptop.

1. Try the Fn Lock Shortcut

Some HP models allow toggling Fn lock directly from the keyboard.

  • Press Fn + Esc once.
  • Wait a few seconds and test keys like F1–F12 to see if they now work without holding Fn.

If this doesn’t help, move to the next step.

2. Adjust BIOS Settings (Function Key Behavior)

This method gives you full control over how the Fn key behaves.

  1. Restart your laptop and immediately begin tapping the Esc key repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  2. Press F10 to enter BIOS Setup.
  3. Use the arrow keys to navigate to the System Configuration tab.
  4. Locate Action Keys Mode:
    • If set to Enabled, function keys work without pressing Fn.
    • If set to Disabled, you must press Fn + F1–F12.
  5. Change the setting to your preference.
  6. Press F10 to save and exit BIOS.

Your keyboard should now respond as expected.

3. Update HP Hotkey Support (if available)

Some models use HP software to manage keyboard behavior.

  • Visit the official HP driver page for your laptop model. If you need help locating it, I can assist.
  • Look for HP Hotkey Support or System Event Utility under Software or Utility sections.
  • Download and install the latest version.

This helps ensure your keyboard functions are properly recognized.

If you’d like help locating the exact driver page for your model, just share the full product name or serial number and I’ll guide you directly. Once these steps are complete, your keyboard should feel responsive and intuitive again.
