Hi @Anish1903,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP Notebook - 15-Bs542tu is indicating that the BIOS update is blocked, there are a few steps you can take to resolve this issue. Here’s a systematic approach to unblock the BIOS update:
1. Verify the Current BIOS Version
- Check your current BIOS version: You can do this by pressing F10 during startup to enter the BIOS setup utility. The BIOS version is usually listed on the main screen.
2. Ensure Proper BIOS Update File
- Download the correct BIOS update: Visit the official HP support website, enter your laptop's model number (15-Bs542tu), and download the latest BIOS update for your specific model. Make sure the update file is compatible with your current BIOS version.
3. Disable BIOS Protection Settings
- Access BIOS settings: Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter the BIOS setup utility.
- Navigate to the "Security" tab: Look for options related to BIOS protection, such as "Secure Boot," "BIOS Protection," or "BIOS Update via Network."
- Disable the protection features: Disable any options that may be preventing the BIOS update.
- Save and exit: Save your changes and exit the BIOS setup utility.
Use HP Support Assistant
- Download and install HP Support Assistant: If you don’t already have it, download HP Support Assistant from the HP website.
- Check for updates: Open HP Support Assistant, check for updates, and follow the prompts to update the BIOS.
5. Use a BIOS Recovery USB Drive
- Create a BIOS recovery USB drive: Use another computer to download the BIOS update file from the HP support website and create a BIOS recovery USB drive.
- Boot from the USB drive: Insert the USB drive into your laptop, restart it, and press Esc repeatedly to enter the Startup Menu. Then, select F9 to enter the Boot Device Options menu and choose the USB drive.
- Follow on-screen instructions: Follow the instructions to update or recover the BIOS from the USB drive.
Follow the remaining steps from the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi @Anish1903,
Here are the rest of the steps.
Clear the BIOS Password
- Remove BIOS password (if any): If there’s a BIOS password set, it might block the update. Enter the BIOS setup utility by pressing F10 during startup and clear the BIOS password under the "Security" tab.
- Save and exit: Save your changes and exit the BIOS setup utility.
7. Check for System Administration Restrictions
- Check for administrative restrictions: If your laptop is part of an organization or has certain administrative restrictions, these might block BIOS updates. Ensure you have administrative privileges or contact your IT department for assistance.
8. Perform the Update in Safe Mode
- Enter Safe Mode: Restart your laptop and press F8 or Shift + F8 before Windows starts to enter Safe Mode.
- Run the BIOS update: In Safe Mode, try running the BIOS update executable file again.
If none of the above steps work, it may be necessary to contact HP phone support for assistance. They can provide remote assistance to help you unblock the BIOS update.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
