HP EliteBook 840 G6 Notebook PC
Microsoft Windows 11

I have an hp elitebook 840 g6 and it has some rather odd driver issue.
cursor starts shacking and misses input often only if I update the drivers.
I deleted the drivers and it worked totally fine but windows updates the drivers.
I have no option but to click on install all because check for updates button gets hijacked by install all updates and there is no way to deny these updates because these do not show up under optional updates.
Also, two finger scroll sometimes stops working and sometimes it zooms the page.

Hi  @Luqman2

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out. I understand that after the touchpad driver updates on your HP EliteBook 840 G6, the cursor begins to shake, miss inputs, and stutter, while two-finger scrolling behaves inconsistently. I will do my best to assist you.

To better understand the issue, could you kindly provide the following details?

  • Are you using the built-in touchpad only, or do you also experience similar behaviour with an external mouse?
  • Have you noticed whether the issue occurs after waking the notebook from sleep or after a restart?

In the meantime, kindly try the below  steps and confirm :

  1. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics - Click here for steps
    • Restart the computer and press F2 repeatedly at startup.
    • Run the Touchpad/Pointing Device Test and check if any issues are detected.
  2. Reinstall the Touchpad Driver
    • Open Device Manager.
    • Expand Mice and other pointing devices.
    • Right-click the touchpad device (Synaptics or ELAN) and select Uninstall device.
    • Check Delete the driver software for this device if available.
    • Restart the notebook and allow Windows to reinstall the driver.
  3. Adjust Touchpad Settings
    • Go to Settings -Bluetooth & devices -Touchpad.
    • Verify that Two-finger scrolling is enabled.
    • Reset touchpad settings to their default values and test again.
  4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
    • Open HP Support Assistant and check for the latest BIOS and chipset updates designed for your model.
    • These updates can improve communication between the touchpad hardware and Windows.

I hope this helps.
