Because my computer's cover was closed due to dust, I removed it to clean it and then put it back. Will this void my computer’s warranty?

Hi @Atamaykorun1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

Unfortunately, yes, removing or opening the computer’s cover will void your warranty, as it is considered unauthorized disassembly. HP’s warranty policy does not cover any damage or issues that occur due to self-servicing or tampering with internal components.

I hope this helps.

Dear HP Support Team,

I have reviewed your message, but I find it quite unusual that simply removing and reattaching the bottom cover would void the product’s warranty. No modifications or maintenance procedures were performed on the device. The CPU temperature currently ranges between 59°C and 74°C, which clearly indicates that no cleaning or maintenance work has been carried out.

To my understanding, the bottom cover of a laptop is considered part of the chassis rather than an internal component. Therefore, it seems unreasonable that HP would classify the bottom cover as an internal part and void the warranty solely because it has been opened. Based on my research, there is substantial information online indicating that removing the bottom cover does not invalidate the warranty. In fact, it is widely acknowledged that accessing the empty RAM or SSD slots for upgrades does not void the warranty — a practice supported by several well-known manufacturers.

I would also like to emphasize that I did not interfere with any internal hardware components, labels, or seals, nor did I cause any physical or electronic damage to the device. Therefore, I am unable to understand why my laptop has been classified as out of warranty.

In many cases, authorized service centers in my country — not only HP but other brands as well — have extended repair timelines. Declaring a device out of warranty simply because I attempted to remove accumulated dust from the bottom cover seems unfair and causes inconvenience to users.

Additionally, the dust accumulation issue appears to be related to the product’s own design, as the bottom cover limits proper airflow. Furthermore, the working hours of authorized service centers are not suitable for employed individuals, and local service providers and shipping companies often refuse responsibility for damages that occur during transit. Under these circumstances, we preferred not to send a fully functional device to the service center for such a minor issue.

I kindly request that my device’s warranty status be re-evaluated considering these points.

Sincerely,
Atamaykorun1

Hi @Atamaykorun1,

Thank you for sharing the detailed explanation and your concerns, we truly appreciate your time and effort in clarifying the situation.

Please note that simply removing and reattaching the bottom cover does not automatically void the warranty, provided that no internal components were tampered with or damaged in the process.

If the device is later found to have hardware issues unrelated to customer handling, those will absolutely be covered under warranty. However, if during inspection the service center identifies any customer-induced damage, such as broken clips, stripped screws, damaged connectors, or internal component damage, it will not be considered under warranty.
