Microsoft Windows 11

So I have an HP Pavilion x360 laptop-14m-dw0013dx, for about 4 or 5 years now. I've actually never used the webcam until recently, I've needed to access it for school purposes. Whenever I access zoom, or any other site that requires my webcam, it always gives me the "camera not detected" message. I literally spent about 4 to 5 hours, with chat support from best buy and microsoft, trying to resolve the issue. Thing is, both virtual reps were able to access my computer and fix the problem for a moment, but it seemed to revert back to not working very shortly after. The second rep said that my camera driver was outdated. My question is, how do i go about knowing what the most updated version is and how to get it??? I've been on google looking for it, through the HP website as well and I just feel like I'm hitting a wall.

Hi @FanCY_chick-24,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating, but we can tackle this step by step to resolve your webcam issue on the HP Pavilion x360 laptop. Here's what you can do.

Confirm the Webcam is Enabled

  • Press Fn + the key with a camera icon (likely F6 or similar) to toggle the webcam on/off. Sometimes, it may be disabled by default.

Check Device Manager

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Imaging devices or Cameras.
  • Look for your webcam (e.g., "HP TrueVision HD Camera").
    • If it's not listed, enable "Show hidden devices" (View > Show hidden devices).
    • If it has a yellow triangle or no webcam is listed, the driver may be missing or faulty.

Update or Reinstall Webcam Driver

  • Right-click the webcam in Device Manager and select Update driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for drivers.
  • If no update is found:
    • Go to HP's support website and search for your laptop model.
    • Look under Driver-Keyboard, Mouse, and Input Devices for the webcam driver.
    • Download and install the latest available driver for your model.

Run Windows Update

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install any available updates, especially optional updates that might include driver updates.

Check Privacy Settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy > Camera.
  • Ensure Camera access for this device is enabled.
  • Scroll down and ensure apps like Zoom, Microsoft Teams, or your browser are granted access.

Test in Camera App

  • Open the built-in Camera app by typing "Camera" in the Windows search bar.
  • Check if the webcam works. If it doesn’t:
    • Disconnect any external peripherals (e.g., USB drives or external cameras) that might conflict.
    • Restart the system and retry.

BIOS/UEFI Check

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI (press Esc, F2, or F10 during boot).
  • Look for an option related to the webcam and ensure it is enabled.

If the Problem Persists

If the issue reoccurs after a reboot, it could be due to:

  • Driver corruption: Uninstall the webcam driver completely in Device Manager, then restart. Windows should reinstall the default driver.
  • Hardware issue: Since you haven't used the webcam until recently, it’s possible the hardware connection is loose or defective.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
