What does my camera on/off key look like on my keyboard?

Hi @Ox-6,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand how confusing it can be when you’re trying to locate the camera on/off key on your keyboard.

Some HP laptops have a dedicated key with a small camera icon (often on the function row, like F8 or F10), while others use a keyboard shortcut such as Fn + F10

On certain models, the camera privacy switch may even be a physical slider near the webcam itself rather than a keyboard key.

To guide you better, could you please share the exact model of your HP laptop?

In the meantime, here are a few quick steps you can try:

  • Look along the top row of your keyboard for a key with a small camera symbol.
  • If you see one, try pressing it alone or together with the Fn key.
  • Check near the webcam itself for a small slider or button it may physically block the camera.
  • Open your Windows settings (Start > Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera) to confirm the camera isn’t disabled in software.

Once I know your laptop model, I’ll be able to give you exact guidance on where the camera key or switch is located.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
