If your Compaq Presario CQ42 laptop has Bluetooth settings but they won’t open, here are some steps to troubleshoot:

 

1. Check Bluetooth Status

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Bluetooth and check if your adapter is listed.
  • If there’s a yellow warning icon, right-click and select Update Driver.

2. Enable Bluetooth in BIOS

  • Restart your laptop and press F10 to enter BIOS.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Built-in Device Options.
  • Ensure Bluetooth is enabled.
  • Save changes and restart.

3. Restart Bluetooth Services

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter.
  • Scroll down to Bluetooth Support Service.
  • Right-click and select Restart.
  • Set Startup Type to Automatic.

4. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Open Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Bluetooth and run the troubleshooter.

5. Reinstall Bluetooth Drivers

  • In Device Manager, right-click the Bluetooth adapter.
  • Select Uninstall device and restart your laptop.
  • Windows should automatically reinstall the drivers.
