HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba121tu
Microsoft Windows 11

I upgraded windows 10 to windows 11 on my Pavilion x360 with i5 processor. Since upgrade 2 of my keys not working ( I know it is not hardware problem). Key H does not work but sometime when my finger on touchpad it starts typing hhhhhhhh. Also key capital M will not type if I use left side shift but it will type capital M if I use right side shift key. I tried external keyboard and all keys work perfect. I guess the problem is with driver of Elon touchpad. Unfortunately HP does not have drivers for windows 11. Is there anything I can do to get my 'h' key working? Why HP does not provide windows 11 drivers for Laptop bought in 2019?

Hi @shan0011,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

There are no drivers available for your unit because this PC is not compatible with Windows 11 yet. You may have to wait until further updates.

However, To address the issue with the 'h' key not working on your HP Pavilion X360 - 14-Ba121tu and the problem with the Elan touchpad driver, there are several steps you can take. Let's tackle each problem separately.

Fixing the 'h' Key Issue

Check for Physical Obstruction:

  • Ensure that there is no debris or dirt under the 'h' key. You can gently clean around and under the key using compressed air.

Use On-Screen Keyboard:

  • Press Windows + R and type osk, then press Enter. Use the on-screen keyboard to see if the 'h' key works there.

Update Keyboard Drivers:

  • Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Keyboards.
  • Right-click on your keyboard device and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

Reinstall Keyboard Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, right-click on your keyboard device and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

Check for Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Check for updates and install any available updates.

Perform a Keyboard Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.
  • Select Keyboard and run the troubleshooter.

Resolving Elan Touchpad Driver Issue

Since HP does not have drivers for Windows 11 for your Elan touchpad, you can try using compatibility mode or alternative drivers.

Download Windows 10 Driver and Install in Compatibility Mode:

  • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest Windows 10 driver for your Elan touchpad.
  • Right-click on the driver setup file and select Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Check Run this program in compatibility mode for and select Windows 10 from the dropdown menu.
  • Click Apply and then OK.
  • Run the setup file to install the driver.

Use Windows Update for Driver Installation:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click on Check for updates. Windows might find and install a compatible driver for your touchpad.

Use Generic Drivers:

  • In Device Manager, expand Mice and other pointing devices.
  • Right-click on your Elan touchpad device and select Update driver.
  • Choose Browse my computer for drivers.
  • Select Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer.
  • Choose a generic driver (e.g., HID-compliant mouse) and install it.

Additional Tips

  • BIOS Update: Ensure your BIOS is up to date as sometimes this can resolve hardware compatibility issues. You can check for BIOS updates on the HP Support website.
  • External Keyboard: As a temporary workaround, you can use an external USB keyboard to ensure functionality until the internal keyboard issue is resolved.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
