Hi @rakshh_18

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

If Windows Security shows your network firewall is off despite full protection, you can manually re-enable it and verify your network profile settings.

It’s understandably concerning when your system says the firewall is off even though everything else looks secure. This can happen due to a misconfigured network profile, third-party security software interference, or a service glitch.

Here’s how to restore full firewall protection:

Steps to Fix “Firewall Is Off” Warning in Windows Security

1. Manually Turn Firewall Back On

  • Open Windows Security from the Start menu.
  • Click Firewall & network protection.
  • You’ll see three profiles: Domain, Private, and Public.
  • Click each one and ensure Microsoft Defender Firewall is set to On.

2. Check Network Profile Type

Sometimes the firewall is off for a specific profile (e.g., Public network).

  • Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi or Ethernet (depending on your connection).
  • Click your network name > Set it to Private if it’s currently Public.
  • Return to Firewall & network protection and confirm the firewall is now active for that profile.

3. Restart the Windows Firewall Service

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Scroll to Windows Defender Firewall.
  • Right-click > Restart.
  • Ensure Startup Type is set to Automatic.

4. Disable Conflicting Third-Party Security Software

If you use antivirus software like Norton, McAfee, or Kaspersky, they may override Windows Firewall.

  • Open the third-party app and check its firewall settings.
  • Either enable its firewall or disable the app temporarily to let Windows Firewall take over.

5. Run Windows Firewall Troubleshooter

Once these steps are complete, your firewall status should reflect correctly in Windows Security. If it still shows “Off,” let me know whether you’re using any third-party antivirus or VPN software—I’ll help you dig deeper.
