Hi @rxzaa,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for providing the detailed information about your HP ZBook Studio 15.6-inch G8 Mobile Workstation PC (3K0R8AV).

From what you described, the issue occurs specifically after closing the lid or putting the ZBook into Sleep, and you then get a black display with the Caps Lock, microphone mute, and other indicator lights flashing. The fact that the system eventually starts after the sequence you described makes it important to check the BIOS/display initialization rather than repeatedly forcing the notebook to power on.

First, please try an HP BIOS Recovery

  1. Connect the original HP AC adapter
  2. Shut the ZBook down completely.
  3. Press and hold Windows + B
  4. While holding those keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds
  5. Release the Power button but continue holding Windows + B
  6. Wait to see whether the HP BIOS Update/Recovery screen appears.

If nothing appears, HP indicates that Windows + V can be tried using the same procedure.

Please allow the recovery process to complete if it starts. Do not interrupt the power during BIOS recovery.

After the recovery
Restart the ZBook and test the following:

  • Close the lid and reopen it.
  • Put the system into Sleep, then wake it.
  • Check whether the display comes back normally.
  • Test Windows + L to see whether Windows now locks the system correctly.

If the problem continues
Please connect the ZBook to an external monitor or TV using an available HDMI/USB-C display connection.

Then reproduce the issue by closing the lid or putting the ZBook to sleep.
Please tell us:

  1. Does the external monitor display normally when the built-in screen remains black?
  2. Do the Caps Lock and microphone-mute lights continue flashing?
  3. Does the ZBook eventually start normally after the procedure you described?
  4. Does Windows + L work after Windows starts?

If possible, please also provide a short video showing the flashing lights when the problem occurs. The exact blink sequence can be useful when identifying an HP diagnostic condition.

I would not recommend repeatedly forcing the system off/on or making further BIOS changes yet. Let's first see whether the BIOS recovery changes the behavior, and then determine whether the external display behaves differently. That will give us a much clearer indication of whether we're dealing with a BIOS/resume issue or a display-related problem.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
