EliteBook 840 G6
Linux

Hi there.. Im using HP EliteBook 840 G6 Laptop, Core I7 CPU, Intel UHD620, 64 GB RAM on Linux Manjaro OS

At a moment im using dual monitor setup: 27" 2.5K (Dell P2720D) + 24" 1920x1200 (DELL U2412M).. Those working perfectly in different kind of connections:

1. Using HP SlimDock and both monitors connected to Display Port on The Dock. Working perfectly like this in their max resolution and 60 Hz. Also speed im getting is totaly smooth and without any lag

2. Using Dell WD19 USB-C Dock connected on USB-C port on the laptop

 - If i connect both monitors on Dock in this confiruguration then not possible both to work in full resolution (Only one of them, second one have trouble)

- If i conect one of the monitors on Dock and second directly in HDMI port on Laptop no problems (in any combination). Both monitors working at their full resolution and 60 Hz. Speed im getting again, smooth and without any lag

My question: I want to replace my 24" Dell with another 27" 2.5K or 32" 4K.

Im sure if i get 27" 2.5K there wont be a problem in same settings as i use my two monitors now. Problem is that there is no stock on it 😞

So is it possible to use 32" 4k @  60 Hz on my Laptop?

Checking in HP Table i see my UltraSlim Dock maximum support two 2.5K Monitors at 60Hz  so seem not possible to connect it here.

Solutions im thinking about is:

1. 2.5K 27" Monitor to be connected directly on HDMI Port while 32" 4K to be connected on USB-C trough USB-C Display Port adapter (Unfortunately monitor im considering dont have USB-C Connection, just DP)

2. 2.5" 27" Monitor to be connected on HDMI Port, while 32"4k to be connected on my Dell WD19 130W Dock using DP cable (while dock is connected trough USB-C on my laptop)

And if those two works.. Will be fast enough for programming/browsing/virtual machines/containers etc? Or definetely too sluggish?

And third solution which seem to work to get HP Universal USB-C Dock.. But this will be left as last solution.. And if i get this dock.. Will be possible to have two 32" 4K 60 hz monitors connected on this dock and to still have satisfactory speed for scenario i mentioned?

Thanks a lot in advance... BTW, monitor im considering as 32" is Dell S3221QS

@3pio

You are talking "dock" for your machine therefore my suggestion is to use HP USB-C Gen 5 dock more information

Thanks a lot for ur reply.. I checked dock u suggest, but since i allready have two docks im not too keen to buy another one especially when i checked the price of suggested HP USB-C Gen 5 dock...

So that's why im focused on two possible scenarios im thinking of it (if someone has tried them please let me know)

And really interested how will working experience on 4K in term of speed and smoothness.. Because if this is too slow than i'll just get another 2.5K Monitor...

BTW if i  really need to go for a new dock solution maybe is best  to get this one:  https://www8.hp.com/h20195/v2/GetPDF.aspx/c06308183.pdf

That HP USB-C Universal dock support 2 x 4K monitors (connected on DP), and this dock can be found cheap on ebay as second hand.. So also interested if anyone has experince running 2 4K Monitors (@60 Hz) on this dock and similar Laptop setup (integrated Intel 620)..

Thanks in advance...
