Hi,

A week ago I was using my laptop [HP Pavilion Gaming - 15-ec1001na] as usual, and suddenly my in built screen turned off permanently, however I could still connect it via HDMI to another external monitor. I factory reset my PC hoping this would fix the issue and downloaded the AMD software to make sure all was correctly up-to-date, however once I tried to install it, it would give error 186 saying that there were missing or corrupted files. On devices manager, the AMD Radeon icon had a yellow alert icon, saying error 43. I then downloaded and executed the AMD cleanup utility software which unfortunately, after this was executed, any other screen in which I attempt to connect, does not turn on.

Thank you so much in advance for your support!

Hi @area22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like you're experiencing a display issue with your HP Pavilion Gaming laptop, specifically related to the AMD Radeon graphics driver. Here are a few steps you can take to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue:

Steps to Resolve the Display Issue

Check Display Connections:

  • Ensure that the internal display’s connection is secure. This usually requires a professional, as it involves opening the laptop, so consider contacting HP support for hardware issues.

Device Manager Check:

  • Open Device Manager and check for any warning signs on the AMD Radeon driver, as indicated by the yellow icon. This may suggest that the driver is not installed correctly.

Update or Reinstall AMD Driver:

  • Uninstall the existing AMD graphics driver from the Device Manager:
    1. Right-click on the AMD Radeon driver and select "Uninstall device."
    2. Reboot the laptop.

  • Download the latest compatible AMD driver from the HP Official HP® Support.

Error 186 Troubleshooting:

  • If you encounter error 186 during driver installation, it indicates a problem with missing or corrupt installation files.
  • Ensure you are downloading the correct driver version compatible with your laptop’s specifications.
  • Clear any temporary files from previous failed installations before attempting to install again.

Windows Update:

  • Run Windows Update to ensure that all system components are up-to-date, as sometimes updates can resolve driver compatibility issues.

External Monitor Setup:

  • Since you can use an external monitor, it is beneficial for troubleshooting. Ensure your system display settings don't mistakenly default to output only to the external monitor.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
