HP Envy Notebook
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I am an English teacher and this morning I went to open the camera on Zoom to prepare for my class tomorrow, and Zoom told me my camera was not functioning properly. I tried on Skype and it mentioned the same thing. I have not had any problems and no damage (that I can tell) has been done to the camera.

So I uninstalled my webcam from the Device manager thinking I could reinstall it but I have not found a way to reinstall it. I thought the best option was to buy a backup laptop so I went and bought a Chromebook, which apparently I am learning does not run Zoom very well (I teach classes of 20+) and I can't even record myself in the video session. I'm going to return that laptop but first I need to straighten this camera situation out so I can teach tomorrow.

I have an HP Envy notebook , model name m7-n109sx , serial #[personal info removed]

I tried restarting my laptop several times to see if it would replace my camera within device manager, but no luck.

Can anyone tell me how to recover my camera and allow it to function? Should I buy an external camera that I can plug in?

Thanks for your help everyone!

Sincerely,

A stressed teacher

I reviewed your post and I understand that the webcam is not working on your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you download and install the Youcam software from the below link and check whether the webcam is working in the software.

https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71830.exe

If you continue facing the issue, then install all the Windows updates including optional and test.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Select the Start (Windows) button from the bottom-left corner.
  2. Go to settings (gear icon).
  3. Select the Update and Security icon.
  4. Choose Windows Update tab in the sidebar (Circular arrows)
  5. Select Check for updates. If there is an available update, it will begin downloading automatically.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
