I've had my active tilt pen for 10 months now and it worked well until the tip stopped working. All the other buttons work, presentation mode works as well, the pen connects to my laptop and it charges. The only problem is that I can not write with it, the cursor does not appear on my screen at all when I put my pen tip next to it. I ve tried multiple steps (updates, deleting drivers, calibrating, unpair and pair again) and none of them worked. What should I do?
The code for the pen is
2MY21AA#ABL |
and my laptop modell is HP Spectre x360 2-in-1 Laptop 14-ef0027nn

Hi @denisaalexandru,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your active tilt pen (2MY21AA#ABL) is not working properly despite trying various troubleshooting steps, there are a few additional things you can try before considering a replacement. Here's a step-by-step guide to further diagnose and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check for Physical Damage
- Inspect the pen tip for any visible damage. Sometimes, wear and tear can cause the tip to malfunction.
- If you have a replacement tip, try swapping it out.
2. Battery and Charging
- Ensure the pen is fully charged. Sometimes, even if the pen shows it’s charging, it might not be holding a charge correctly.
- Try charging the pen with a different charger or USB port to rule out charging issues.
3. Driver and Firmware Updates
- Firmware Update: Sometimes, pen issues can be resolved with a firmware update. Check HP's support website for any firmware updates for your pen model.
- Reinstall Drivers: Completely uninstall the pen drivers from the Device Manager, restart your laptop, and then reinstall the drivers. Sometimes, this can resolve issues that simple updates cannot.
- Go to Device Manager > Human Interface Devices > Right-click on the pen device > Uninstall. Then restart your laptop and let Windows reinstall the drivers.
4. Pen Settings
- Open the HP Pen Control software (if available) and ensure the settings are correctly configured.
- Check Windows Ink settings in Windows 10/11. Go to Settings > Devices > Pen & Windows Ink and make sure everything is set up properly.
5. Touchscreen Calibration
- Re-calibrate your touchscreen:
- Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Tablet PC Settings > Calibrate the screen for pen or touch input. Follow the on-screen instructions.
6. Test on Another Device
- If possible, test your pen on another compatible device to see if the issue persists. This can help determine if the issue is with the pen or the laptop.
7. Factory Reset (as a last resort)
- If none of the above steps work, consider performing a factory reset on your laptop. Ensure you back up your data before doing this. Sometimes, software conflicts can cause peripheral issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
