Pavilion 15-cs 3153 ng
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Thanks for taking me up. I own a HP Pavilion 15-cs 3153 ng notebook and want to extend to two external monitors. The final aim is to display separate contents on each external one - I'm happy btw. for one of the externals to duplicate the laptop's own screen. The laptop has one HDMI plug where I can successfully connect one external monitor. As for the second external monitor I plug it in an unpowered (passive) hub's HDMI and connect the hub with the small USB slot in the Pavilion - I think it's called USB-C. The hub works fine for mouse, keyboard and headset, but not for the second monitor. The first thing I want to ask is if the Pavilion notebook is able to work with two external monitors at all (e.g. like the HP Elitebook I use somewhere else with a DisplayLink). If that is right, could you give me hints what the mistake is here? E.g the hub is wrong (maybe the hub's HDMI slot is defective), or USB-C is wrong. Alternatively, which kind of connection is proven to work? Thanks a lot.

The specs of your machine is

           https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c06584412

It ONLY has 1 USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C™ (Data Transfer Only, 5 Gb/s signaling rate) port which does NOT support Alt mode nor Power Delivery. You can NOT use it to

  • Charge your machine
  • Connect to an external monitor with/without hub/dock/adapter

If you wish to connect 2 external monitors, you can use

M1: HDMI direct cable

M2: Using a Displaylink Certified USB-A to HDMI adapter such as

          https://www.amazon.com.au/CableCreation-Adapter-Windows-Compatible-2560x1440/dp/B013G4CJM8

For more connectivity, please use

                  True Universal Docking Stations

Regards.
