Screen broken, display not functional. Best to replace screen or add a second monitor with HDMI out? Wondering if second monitor will be functional, as I won't be able to access settings to add it via original monitor.

Connect the second monitor with HDMI.
A TV set will work. If the display doesn't show up let me know.***
Please provide the Product ID or exact model name for better assistance.
Go to the below site and enter your serial number and look for the type of display you've got. If it's a touch display it will be more expensive and more difficult to install.

*** It would be very unusual for the display not to show up. But there are some rare circumstances in which this can happens.
Hear the windows tillda sound? Then enter your pin or password and attempt to log in blind. After you log in hold down the windows key and press the letter P. Try this on another computer first so you can see what it's doing.
Try to select DUPLICATE as shown below
