HP Spectre x360 Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Was sitting next to my computer All of a sudden the screen blacked out and came back on with a low resolution and 4:3 ratio. I changed the resolution to a higher resolution, but no option for 16:9.

I tried disabling the graphics driver, and when I did the computer switched back to 16:9. But the graphics are not right and the ocmputer runs slower. WHen I re-enable the graphics driver it goes back to looking ok (although squished) and running ok, but it's still 4:3.

The graphics driver says Intel HD Graphics 520. Version 22.20.16.4836. When I try to updat ethe driver, I'm told it is the latest.

Help! Everything is squishy!

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help,  I have a few troubleshooting steps we could try to fix the issue:
Firstly, let's uninstall the Display Adapter driver:

  • On your, Key Board press Windows key + X
  • Press M to open Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click on the current display adapter
  • Click uninstall

Once it's done you can restart your computer and check. If the issue persists try driver rollback.

  • On your, Key Board press Windows key + X
  • Press M to open Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click on the current display adapter
  • Click Properties
  • Click on the Driver tab
  • Click on Rollback driver if the option is available

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

When I uninstall the driver, it fixes the aspect ratio but my computer runs very slowly. After about a minute, it reinstalls the driver and my aspect ratio changes back to 4:3.

Roll back is not an uption (it's grayed out).

Any other ideas?

Thank you,

Stuart

@stuartevan
thank you for posting back.

Let's try this:

Firstly, perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant: ( do not skip any troubleshooting steps if you feel steps are repeating )

To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings  > Update & security  > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.

Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon https://support.hp.com/doc-images/932/c05040382.jpg.
  2. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
  3. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
  4. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
  5. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
  6. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

Next run BIOS Update: Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi. Thanks again. I did these steps before, and I just redid them. Everything is up to date.

Any other ideas?

Thank you.
