HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-aa0000 (7M3L2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hiya,

I have noticed that the rotation feature is greyed out and permanently on (I had a Spectre a couple of years ago but this is the 2024 model now). I never had to mess about with any of the settings all the time we were together.

Its only become an issue the first time I have tried to use this in 'tent' mode on my holiday. I have also uninstalled the sensor array and rebooted but nothing works.

I have tried changing the orientation to landscape, and flipping the landscape mode when in tent mode but I want it to do this automatically when I flip the laptop. Nothing happens to the screen when you rotate the laptop either.

Can anyone help?

Hi @DSKingsHeath,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

If the auto-rotation feature is greyed out and permanently disabled on your HP Spectre x360 16-inch 2-in-1 laptop, here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check Tablet Mode Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Tablet.
  • Ensure that tablet mode is set to On if you want to enable auto-rotation when using the laptop in tablet mode.

2. Enable Rotation Lock

  • Click on the Action Center (bottom right corner of the screen).
  • Check if the Rotation Lock is enabled. If it is, toggle it off.

3. Update Device Drivers

  • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start menu.
  • Expand the Sensors section.
  • Right-click on HID-compliant sensor and select Update driver.
  • Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.

4. Check Sensor Settings

  • Open Settings > Privacy > Location.
  • Make sure that location services are enabled, as some systems require this to activate auto-rotation.

5. Run Windows Troubleshooter

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Additional troubleshooters.
  • Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter to check for any issues related to sensors.

6. Reboot Your Laptop

  • Restarting your laptop can sometimes resolve temporary glitches related to hardware functions.

7. Check for Windows Updates

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and ensure that your system is fully updated.

8. BIOS Settings

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings (usually by pressing Esc or F10 during startup).
  • Look for any settings related to sensors or auto-rotation and ensure they are enabled.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, there may be a hardware malfunction, and it would be advisable to contact HP phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
