HP ENVY x360 15.6 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 15-ey0000 (54J84AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi

The auto-rotate feature on my HP Envy x360 2-in-1 Laptop 15-ey0001na is not working. When I fold the laptop into tablet mode, the screen does not rotate. It is stuck in desktop mode. However, when I select "portrait" or "landscape" modes in "Display Orientation", it rotates accordingly. It just never auto-rotates. I have restarted the PC many times and updated all the drivers, yet it doesn't work. Also, the problem is not from the "rotation lock" button. I don't know what else to do. Please help.

Hi @Clavis842,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you've already taken several troubleshooting steps, but let's explore a few more potential solutions for the auto-rotate issue on your HP Envy x360 Laptop.

  • Check for System Updates: Ensure that your operating system is up-to-date. Check for Windows updates and make sure your HP Envy x360 has the latest system updates installed. Sometimes, a system update can include fixes for hardware-related issues.
  • HP Support Assistant: Use the HP Support Assistant to check for updates specifically related to your laptop model. HP Support Assistant is a utility that comes pre-installed on many HP computers and can help you keep your system and drivers updated.
  • BIOS/UEFI Update: Ensure that your laptop's BIOS/UEFI is up-to-date. Visit the official HP website, enter your laptop's model number, and look for the latest BIOS/UEFI update. Follow the instructions provided by HP to update your system firmware.
  • Sensor Troubleshooting: The auto-rotate feature relies on sensors in the device. Check if there's a sensor issue. Open the Device Manager on your laptop, find the sensor devices, and ensure they are working correctly. You might find sensors listed under categories like "Sensors" or "Human Interface Devices."
  • Rotation Lock Settings: Even though you mentioned that the rotation lock button isn't the issue, double-check the Rotation Lock settings. Go to Settings > System > Display, and ensure that the "Rotation Lock" option is turned off.
  • Graphics Driver Update: Update your graphics drivers. Go to the device manager, locate your graphics card, right-click, and choose "Update driver." Follow the on-screen instructions.
  • HP Hardware Diagnostics: Run the HP Hardware Diagnostics to check for any hardware-related issues. This tool can help identify problems with various components of your laptop.
  • Reinstall Sensor Drivers: Uninstall the sensor drivers from the Device Manager, and then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall the necessary drivers. To do this, right-click on the sensor in the Device Manager and select "Uninstall device."
  • Check Auto-Rotate Settings: Go to Settings > System > Display and ensure that the "Change the screen orientation" dropdown menu is set to "Automatically rotate."

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
