Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

This has been an annoyance for quite some time and I cannot seem to find any help on it.  When typing in laptop mode, randomly, a pop-up message will appear in the upper left-hand corner.

Message BoxMessage Box

The message/notification box only appears for a few seconds, but when it does, it interrupts my typing and keystrokes are not recorded.  It happened twice while typing this post (so, it is fairly frequent).

I can put my tablet in tent mode, which enabled the rotation lock setting.  I set rotation lock to "on".  This corrects the problem; however, obviously, the screen no longer rotates.

So, is just seems like the message is inappropriately displaying when I am typing and when rotation lock is disabled.  Is there any way to fix this?

@Lotus1-2-3,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are facing issues with the auto rotate feature keeps popping on your screen. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Could you provide me with the exact model of the PC? Use this link to find it:  https://hp.care/2xV7fiL  (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).

Have you made any changes on the PC before the issue started?

Have you tried to perform a Bios update?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Let's start off by updating the Bios and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Alternatively, I have found a wonderful document which should help you with this issue, HP Notebook PCs - How to Configure and Disable the Screen Rotation Feature

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Have you made any changes on the PC before the issue started?  No, the issue has actually been going on every since I purchased the PC (several years; it, and the double-tap that happens when typing (letters repeating), have been long-term annoyances.

Have you tried to perform a Bios update?  No, but I checked with the HP Support Assistant and it says I have no updates available.  Can you guide me to a specific Bios update - if so, I will install it.

@Lotus1-2-3,

Thank you for replying,

As I understand the steps suggested did not fix the issue, don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this issue.

To disable the notification, you can try these steps here:

To add, disable, or enable notifications, begin by clicking the Action Center icon located on the right-hand side of the Windows taskbar. Then, click the All Settingsbutton with the gear icon and select System in the top-left corner of the window.

Afterward, click Notifications & Actions. This will take you to a screen providing access to all of the settings related to notifications and the Action Center.

Toggle switches on and off as you see fit — Windows tips, alarms, reminders, or app notifications — or scroll down to the bottom of the window to enable and disable notifications for particular apps such as Twitter and Outlook. You can even set up Windows 10 to hide notifications when you’re duplicating your screen, which is key when presenting for a business meeting or giving a lecture.

Turn off Get notifications from apps and other sender. Doing this will turn off all the notifications.

Again, you’ll need to install the particular app you want to view notifications for if it’s not already built into your system, and receive a notification first before an app will show up in the list. The following is a list of the settings you can toggle on this screen:

  • Get notifications from apps and other senders
  • Show notifications on the lock screen
  • Show alarms, reminders, and incoming VoIP calls on the lock screen
  • Hide notifications when duplicating my screen
  • Get tips, tricks, and suggestions as you use Windows

Answering to your question regarding the Bios update, here is the link: http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp85001-85500/sp85016.exe

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!
