BLACK AREA THE SIZE OF EGG ON RIGHT SIDE OF NOTEBOOK SCREEN

There is a black area on the right side of notebook screen the size an egg.  It is solid.  This is a new issue.

Any remedies to remove?

It is most likely a damaged panel that would need to be replaced to solve the problem.

Hi David:  The notebook is 8 years old and has served me well.  This is its first problem.  Unfortunately it is happening at a bad time.  I am not in the market to buy a new laptop.

I do however need "something" to tide me over a few months.

Should I just purchase an inexpensive laptop vs. repairing this unit?

Could you suggest an inexpensive HP for me.
